Khapung’s appointment as Inspector General of Police.

KATHMANDU: Chandra Kuber Khapung, an Additional Inspector General (AIG), has been named the next Inspector General of Police (IGP) by the government.

Khapung, who was first in line of seniority, was appointed the 32nd chief of Nepal Police at a meeting of the Council of Ministers on Friday afternoon.

Deepak Thapa, the current IGP, will attain the required retirement age and resign on September 3. The next day, September 4, Khapung will take over.

Despite his best efforts, Thapa was unable to win an extension of his service.

The administration acknowledged Khapung’s appointment before to Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli’s departure for China on Saturday.
